Our take: Persian Tandoor is the kind of hawker stall that quietly embarrasses restaurants charging three times the price.

Operating since 1990 and largely a one-man show run by owner Amir, the stall turns out legitimately tandoor-fired naan — a minor miracle at hawker centre scale — alongside fragrant biryani pilaf, bone-tender lamb shank, and a rotating cast of sides like pickled onions, daal, and brinjal that change subtly with each visit.

The Chicken Tikka Tandoori Set at $8.50 is a strong entry point: reviewers who went in sceptical came out converted, citing juicy, well-marinated chicken and naan with the right chew.

The lamb shank draws the most consistent praise — marinated over 24 hours before cooking, the meat reportedly falls clean off the bone.

The biryani is notably grease-free and fragment-free, which sets it apart from most hawker competition.

There is one real caveat: a one-star incident flags the owner as capable of abrupt service under pressure — worth noting if you're ordering at a busy spell.

We'd call this a destination-worthy hawker meal, not just a convenient one.

Best suited to curious eaters who want Persian-inflected cooking without restaurant prices — go mid-afternoon or early dinner to avoid the worst of the wait.

What customers say

Persian Tandoor, a hawker stall operating since 1990, draws overwhelmingly positive sentiment driven by standout dishes like the lamb shank, fragrant biryani, freshly tandoor-cooked naan, and boneless chicken masala — with the lamb shank repeatedly praised for falling off the bone after a full day of marination.

Long-term regulars, including one patron of 20+ years, highlight that the food quality rivals or surpasses pricier Indian restaurants, with particular praise for house-made pickled onions, clean oil-free biryani, and genuine tandoor-baked naan.

The owner, named Amir, is frequently cited by name for being humble, friendly, and service-oriented, though one incident of rudeness and an order cancellation stands out as a significant outlier.

The sole recurring negative involves a wait-time management issue that escalated into a confrontation, contrasting sharply with the otherwise trust-based, customer-first reputation the stall has built over decades.

Imo one of the best biryanis in Singapore. Have been patronizing this shop for what seems to be 20 plus years now. Never fails to mystify me how the food quality here can exceed so many of the Indian restaurants with much higher price points.

Items which I like:
Exceedingly fragrant biryani. Most hawker biryanis can't even seem to sell it without bone fragments or oozing oil, not sure why. You won't find ever find this problem here.

Well spiced pickled onions. Amir has his own recipe to doing this, and it cuts through the rich taste of his masala perfectly. Some shops artificially induce the red color, or add indifferent yogurt sauces. Not Amir.

The chicken masala was balanced, rich, and tasty. Also boneless! Easy to eat, and great value.

The brinjal, chickpeas and daal are weel worth the trying as well. The shop is flexible, and sometimes changes up their spice compositions into different profiles. Sometimes the eggplant has a roast quality. Today's had fresh 🍅 tomatoes! The daal sometimes goes more plain, sometimes more spiced. Regardless, always good.

The naan here is also tip top, if the biryani were not so fragrant, would eat this all the time. Unfortunately, the biryani is so good that I reserve eating the naan here for only when I've company. The naan here is genuinely cooked in a tandoor oven - which is a mild miracle considering it's mostly a one man show over here. Ithe garlic naan is a little less fragrant than it used to be, instead of fresh garlic, I spot dried roast garlic. That said, still very nice.

Have known the boss here for many years. Friendly, service-oriented man who's a great cook, and has many good stories and interesting opinions.

Look him up if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!

Went for the Chicken Tikka Tandoori Set w/Naan for $8.50. I have the say I didn't have high expectations after seeing my plate as the naan and chicken looked dry. I couldn't be more wrong.

The naan was soft and chewiness was just right. The chicken was tender and juicy too. I was even delighted by the onion garnish that didn't have the raw taste so often found elsewhere. Overall, a surprisingly delicious dinner!

P.S. I was mildly surprised that the stall owner uncle didn't ask for payment upfront which is usually the norm when there is waiting time. He was also busy preparing dishes when I returned after 15 min to collect my food. Thus, I told him I will just leave the money on the table and he trusted me without checking. Truly see his commitment in ensuring his customers get the food ASAP and also the trust in the customers!

Was visiting Singapore on holiday and happened to come across this stall. Decided to give it a try and honestly it exceeded all my expectations…ordered the lamb shank and it was so tender and so soft that it fell off the bone.rice was fragrant flavourful and feels much lighter and healthier than the usual biryani I had elsewhere.I have tried many similar dishes back home but I couldn’t find the same taste and quality. portion was generous, flavours were spot on, and the whole meal was memorable.
Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Singapore. I might just have to come back again for that lamb shank! Highly recommended 😋
